Perth International Arts Festival local Artist Opportunities

Here at Perth International Arts Festival we’ve been thinking of ways to entice you – as a local practising artist or aspiring arts student to engage more deeply in what we do both at Festival time and throughout the year.

So, we’re thrilled to announce a new initiative called Vital Stages which will be a platform for unique artistic opportunities for local artists to engage through Perth International Arts Festival over the next four years. Vital Stages activities will take on many forms across all artistic disciplines through interaction with the artists we present at the Festival and beyond: from opportunities to participate directly in the creation or presentation of work; to workshops, master classes and professional development events.

Oráculos - Call for workshop participants and paid performance opportunity

Teatro de los Sentidos will perform in Australia for the first time with the extraordinary theatrical labyrinth Oráculos experienced one-on-one by audiences. Teatro de los Sentidos will lead a workshop for 16 participants to create a new incarnation of the work for Perth. Four of the workshop participants will then be invited to take up a paid position performing with the company during the Perth season.

• 16 participants will be selected to participate in the free workshop.  This is an opportunity for artist of all disciplines not simply for actors and performers.
  Dates: 24-29 Jan 2012
• Four participants from the workshop will be selected and invited to perform with the company during the Perth season.
  Must be available: 30 Jan-4 March 2012

Home Sweet Home – Call for volunteers

 Home Sweet Home is a fantastic installation performance from UK-based artists Subject to_change who invite the public to create their dream city. Sign up to be part of the team who populate the city as estate agents, postmen and women, Radio DJ’s, town councillors and more.

• Dates: 24 Feb-3 Mar 2012

Faustian Pact – Call for volunteer dancers

 Have an unforgettable Valentines Day performing live at the Festival Gardens in Faustian Pact with New York performance artist Micki Pellerano and Silver Alert (Jim Sclavunos and Peter Mavrogeorgis), who will create an electrifying live event to FW Murnau’s 1926 classic cult film Faust.

• Four local dancers will be hand picked by the artistic team to perform as part of Faustian Pact. Some roles may involve partial nudity.
  Performance date: 14 Feb 2012 (rehearsal times TBC) 

Visual Arts Commission – Life/Life, Wave, Breathing Flower by Choi Jeong Hwa – Call for volunteers

Celebrated South Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa is renowned for his large scale installations often using mass-produced plastics and synthetics to fabricate forms that reference nature and architecture. Join a team working with the artist to realise his three part vision especially commissioned by the Festival for Perth.

We are seeking approximately 10 people to work alongside the artist and professional technicians. Visual arts, architecture or design students or artists interested in installation and public realm art would best appreciate this opportunity.

• Preparation time: 23 Jan-9 Feb 2012, some work will be done offsite.

RedBall Project – Call for volunteers

Be part of the street team alongside New York artist Kurt Perschke as the RedBall Project appears in unusual and surprising locations around Perth city.

• Various dates during Festival time: 10 Feb-3 March 2012
