Splendour In the Grass
Splendour In The Grass
Splendour In the Grass is an annual music, arts and culture event which from 2001-2009 took place each July/August at Belongil Fields campground on the outskirts of Byron Bay .
The tenth Splendour In the Grass festival was held over 3 days at Woodfordia in Woodford Queensland. Organisers view this as a temporary relocation – the event’s producers are part of a team which has been working toward establishing a permanent sustainable event venue to stage the festival at a 660 acre site in the north of the Byron Shire. The chosen site, named North Byron Parklands, is undergoing a comprehensive approval process with the NSW Department of Planning for a permanent cultural event venue and was not going to be ready for the 2010 event. Please visit http://www.northbyronshireparklands.com/ if you want more info.
As well as the latest and best in music from Australia and overseas, the festival also features local arts and crafts and cuisine.
When in Byron Bay Splendour was a two-day event accommodating 17,500 people per day. With around 1600 patrons were also able to camp on site right beside the festival at Belongil Fields. At Woodfordia, the overall capacity is 30,000, with 20,000 of those attendees able to camp on site at the venue over three days.
Many who attend choose to immerse themselves in the full ‘Splendour experience’ by taking advantage of the on-site camping adjacent to the festival site. These campers set up their tents right outside the festival gates and quickly establish their own Splendour village for the weekend.
