Australian Festival of Chamber Music

The Australian Festival of Chamber Music is a wonderful chance to immerse yourself in great music making. In the lovely, tropical, relaxed atmosphere of Townsville you can experience chamber music at its best.
Held annually in July and August, the Festival was established to enhance the cultural environment of North Queensland by presenting internationally acclaimed classical musicians to audiences from Townsville, around Australia and overseas. The natural beauty of Townsville and the North Queensland region in winter, along with its friendly people, wonderfully temperate weather and tropical ambience provides a unique backdrop for the Festival’s concerts and events.
For the Festivals 22nd season, superb musicians including UK pianists Kathryn Stott and Jonathan Plowright, UK/Canada based flautist Lorna McGhee, the Storioni Trio from Holland, the viola players Barry Shiffmann and David Harding from Canada, Atle Sponberg from Norway and Australias finest musicians – the Goldner String Quartet, William Barton, Karin Schaupp, Marsall McGuire, Caroline Almonte, Howard Penny and many more, take to the stage in a programme curated by Artistic Director Piers Lane.
Festival highlights include the ever popular Bach by Candlelight concerts, a Concert on Orpheus Island in the Coral Sea, the Winterschool education programme, the Families Concert, Reef Talks and the brilliant Chefs in the North Dinner hosted by Maggie Beer.
